#1 Lesson from MPI’s Hybrid Meeting Research

by Nicole Wise on October 15, 2012

If you’re like us here at Sonic Foundry, you’re probably pressed for time during the work day. You want to participate in that 60-minute webinar, but sometimes you don’t have enough hours in your day.

So we made things easy for you. During the next few months we’ll post short five- to 10-minute videos here on our blog with tips on planning hybrid events.

Samuel J. Smith, an event technology consultant who’s been working with meeting professionals for over 13 years, visited Sonic Foundry last month to share what he learned as a researcher for The Meeting Professionals International Foundation’s Hybrid Meeting Project.

The study, sponsored by Sonic Foundry, was done by surveying 1,800 people and interviewing nearly 40 and is the most comprehensive look on the topic ever done. It shows how hybrid events are being used and perceived in the meetings industry. It’s also packed with insights from experienced meeting planners.

Here’s Sam’s first lesson for you: Hybrid meetings will NOT cannibalize your face-to-face meeting.
